General Summary
Under the general supervision of the County Board of Commissioners, the Building and Zoning Department administers and enforces the State of Michigan Construction Code, Michigan Residential Code, Michigan Building Code, and the Presque Isle County Zoning Ordinances to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the public. The department reviews and approves applications and issues permits for construction, repairs, remodeling, additions, and the relocation of new or existing structures throughout the county. It also conducts onsite inspections to ensure compliance with applicable building codes and county ordinances. When violations are identified, the Building and Zoning Department is responsible for initiating corrective action and ensuring compliance.
